The oldest player to ever play in the World Cup is Cameroon's Roger Milla. He was 42 years and 39 days old when he played against Russia in 1994.

The youngest player to have ever played in the World Cup is Norman Whiteside of Northern Ireland. He was just 17 years and 41 days old when he played against Yugoslavia in 1982.

The record for playing in the most World Cups is held by Mexican goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal. He played in Brazil in 1950, Sweden in 1958, Chile in 1962 and finally at Wembley in 1966.

Players who have appeared for two countries in World Cup history are: Luis Monti for Argentina in 1930 and Italy in 1934, Ferenc Puskas for Hungary in 1954 and Spain in 1962, José Santamaria for Uruguay in 1954 and Spain in 1962, Mazola for Brazil in 1958 and Italy in 1962 and Robert Prosinecki and Robert Jarni both for Yugoslavia in 1990 and Croatia in 1998.

Substitutes were never used in the World Cup until 1970 in Mexico.

The first World Cup substitute was Anatoli Pusatch of the Soviet Union against Mexico in 1970. He replaced Shesterniev. First goalkeeper to be substituted was Steve Adamache of Romania against Brazil. He was replaced by Necula Raducanu.

Fastest substitution came in 1998, when Italy's Alessandro Nesta was replaced by Giuseppe Bergomi in the match against Austria after only 4 minutes.

The Shortest World Cup career in terms of minutes on the field is shared between two players. Tunisia's Khemais Labidi played two minutes against Mexico in 1978. Argentina's Marcelo Trobbiani played the last two minutes of his country's 3-2 final win over West Germany in 1986.

Brazilian captain Cafu is the only player to play in three finals at the World Cup: In 1994 vs. Italy, in 1998 vs. France and 2002 vs. Germany.

However Brazilian legend Pele is the only player to win the world cup on three occasions: in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

The record attendance for a World Cup final match is 203,500 for the 1950 final between Brazil and Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro.
