Billy Wright and Bobby Moore were England's longest serving captains with 90 caps apiece as the team's leader. The youngest player to be capped for England in the 20th Century was Michael Owen. When he played against Chile on Feb 11 1998 he was aged just 18 years and 59 days. Michael Owen is also England's youngest ever goal scorer. He netted against Morocco in Casablanca, aged 18 years and 147 days, on May 27 1998. England's youngest ever captain was Bobby Moore. He first led his country aged 22 years and 48 days, in England's 4-2 win over Czechoslovakia on May 29, 1963. Stanley Matthews is the oldest player to ever represent his country. On his last appearance for England against Denmark in Copenhagen on May 15, 1957, he was 42 years and 104 days old. Stanley Matthews is also the oldest player ever to score for England. He was 41 years and 248 days old, when he scored against N.Ireland in Belfast on Oct 6, 1956. The oldest player ever to make his debut for England was Leslie Compton against Wales at Roker Park on Nov 15, 1950. He was 38 years and 2 months old. Alan Mullery was the first England player to be sent off when he was red carded against Yugoslavia, in Florence on June 5, 1968. Paul Scholes was the first player to be sent off on English soil when he was dismissed against Sweden at Wembley on June 5, 1999.
